A new visual identity for Norwegian Film Commission capturing the cinematic contrasts of Norway where landscape, light and perspective meet.
About the project
The Norwegian Film Commission works to promote Norway as a world-class location for international film and TV production. With breathtaking natural landscapes, modern infrastructure, and strong industry support, Norway offers a unique backdrop for storytelling at any scale. The Commission serves as a gateway to the country's production resources, helping global filmmakers bring their visions to life.
Nonspace developed a new visual identity and brand system to strengthen the organisation's international presence and position Norway as a world-class destination for film production.
As the official national body connecting international filmmakers with Norwegian locations, expertise, and incentives, Norwegian Film Commission needed an identity that reflected both credibility and creative ambition. An identity capable of speaking to the global film industry while remaining distinctly Norwegian.
Our task was to create a flexible, modern design system that would work across digital and physical platforms, unifying all brand expressions under one clear, cinematic voice.
Norwegian Film Commission operates in a unique intersection between film, tourism, and national branding. Tasked with attracting global productions while representing the creative and geographical diversity of Norway.
The challenge was to balance a cinematic visual language with institutional credibility, ensuring the identity felt both internationally relevant and authentically Norwegian.
Through research and workshops, we uncovered one key truth: Norway's strength lies in contrast - between light and dark, sea and mountain, chaos and calm. The identity needed to visually reflect these contrasts while framing Norway as the perfect backdrop for any story.
The chosen identity concept, Framework/Horizon is built around the idea of the frame. The defining element of both film and landscape. The visual system plays with framing the extraordinary, using horizon lines, cinematic proportions and subtle movement to reflect how filmmakers discover new perspectives within Norway's landscapes.
Core design principles:
- A modular grid system inspired by film composition and natural horizons.
- Dynamic layouts adaptable across formats, maintaining a strong visual rhythm.
- A palette of cinematic light and shadow drawn from Norway's shifting seasons.
- Typography and photography that balance precision with emotion, letting scenery and storytelling coexist in harmony.
The result is a modern and cinematic identity that is recognisable, adaptable and full of movement, designed to evolve with the stories told through it.
The new visual identity positions Norwegian Film Commission as a confident, contemporary and globally relevant brand. One that speaks to filmmakers through both clarity and atmosphere.
By framing Norway's landscapes and contrasts as cinematic opportunities, the identity transforms the Commission from a facilitator into a storyteller. An organisation that doesn't just promote locations, but invites the world to see Norway through the lens of possibility.
